New and existing story content was expanded with a "Legendary" difficulty similar to that from The Witch Queen (2022), designed to be challenging for single players but with improved rewards for completing. It features the same story as the original, but accounts for differences in Destiny 2, such as gameplay mechanics and Champion enemies, as well as a new starting instance on the Hellmouth on Earth's Moon (players begin the raid in the Hellmouth area like the original, but cannot explore the rest of the Moon beyond this area).

As the culmination of a saga, there's a lot the Bungie team has to nail, especially when their storytelling has been hit-or-miss. The official Destiny 2 Twitter page posted a "No Escape" trailer today that showed the severe gravity of this expansion story-wise and introduced the big bad into the fold at the end.
However, Bungie did reveal that season 19 is coming sometime later in the year, so it matches up if August or September will see the 18th.
That's all speculative, though, since Bungie has kept the exact timing of their seasons secret for quite some time. Also, the game's 18th season could be revealed during the live stream, hopefully starting the day of the reveal after a hype showcase. Lightfall will conclude the long-running Light and Darkness saga of Destiny, and the showcase will spotlight key details and improvements on the horizon. On August 23, fans can tune in to the live stream on Bungie's Twitch channel and learn the details about the game's highly-anticipated Lightfall expansion. Bungie's sci-fi MMO shooter, Destiny 2, is prepping their usual big showcase this year, but it comes a bit earlier than expected.
